Thurston Community College

Home Partnership Agreement

We know that every child’s success is dependent upon a strong partnership between the child, their parents/ carers and the College staff. This is as important in their teenage years as it was when they were in Reception. If you want to share any praise, concerns or just want to ‘catch up’ please contact your child’s Academic Tutor – they will be pleased to hear from you.

Attending regularly and on time

Regular attendance means attending College every day which will help you to:

  • Make the most of the opportunities here at Thurston Community College.
  • Keep up with your work and get the best results you can.
  • Get a job – employers like people who are reliable.

You should arrive at College in good time for registration. The morning register will be called promptly at 8.45am.

What to do if you are late

If you arrive at any time after 8.45am you must report to Student Reception and complete a signing-in slip, writing down your time of arrival and why you were late.

If you have to leave College at any time before 3.20pm you must have a note from your parents/ carers. This must be counter-signed by your Academic Tutor or Year Leader. When it is time to leave you must report to Student Reception to sign out.

Absences Acceptable reasons for absences include:

  • Illness
  • Emergency dental/medical appointments (please make routine appointments after College or during the holidays)
  • Day of religious observance
  • Family bereavement
  • Attending an interview for a job, college, university etc.

The College will not authorise absence for day trips, visiting relatives, shopping, birthdays or looking after brothers or sisters etc.

Holidays should be taken during official holiday periods, not during term-time. Your education may be disadvantaged by taking holidays during the academic year. You are not entitled to a holiday in term time. If your parents/carers have a compelling reason to take you out of College they will need to complete a ‘Leave of Absence’ form, which is available on the College website or from Student Reception.
