Sixth Form Tutor

Each year group has a dedicated Sixth Form Tutor. The Sixth Form Tutor is responsible for mentoring and tracking the progress of every student. They work one-to-one with students providing personalised pastoral and academic support. This includes expert advice for maintaining good health and well-being, helping each student with every step of their journey. They also work with students in small groups developing study skills, employability and life skills, preparing students for sixth form life and beyond.

Careers Support

We employ an independent senior careers advisor who meets with every student regularly to help them explore their options for the future. Every student has access to, and is supported by, Unifrog. This is a web-based guide that gives specific help with finding the right course. With access to information and data about every university course in the UK, exploring all possible courses has never been easier

Financial Assistance

It is very important to us that all students have access to learning. Students can receive support with study materials, books, educational visits, travel costs and more. If you think this might apply to you, please talk to us in order to find out more.

Degree Apprenticeships, Elite Universities and Medicine

We have an excellent reputation for providing bespoke support for applications to some of the most prestigious higher educational institutions. We have mentors and advisors with close university links to enable students to successfully gain places at Oxford, Cambridge and other leading universities. We also work with medical professionals and hospitals to tailor support for students applying for health related courses such as medicine, veterinary medicine, nursing, midwifery and paramedic courses.

Support from Lead Practitioners

Alongside excellent subject teaching staff, we have two specialist Lead Practitioners who work with teachers to provide additional support for students outside of normal lessons. From honing essay skills for Geography to sharpening Mathematical skills in Physics, our Lead Practitioners provide a wide range of targeted support across the whole Sixth Form.

That’s why the Sixth Form Team are here to help every step of the way. We offer an open door policy ensuring each student receives support and challenge tailored to their individual needs.

Students at Thurston Sixth are allocated a tutor who will closely monitor progress and provide advice and guidance. Students meet with their tutor both individually, and in group tutorials and receive support on study skills, life skills and preparing for life beyond Thurston Sixth.
