Careers Provision at TCC and Thurston Sixth
Careers Guidance: CEIAG - What is it?
At Thurston Community College and Thurston Sixth we are committed to providing high quality Careers Education Information Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) to ensure our students make well informed choices about their futures. The main focus of our careers programme is to empower and support students to explore and develop themselves.
Students will explore the tools they need to navigate a wide array of opportunities through employment, training, work experience and Further / Higher Education. Developing an understanding of opportunities, while considering what the world of work is like and what future career prospects will be.
All students have access to the careers platform, Unifrog, which supports them in their exploration and reflection. We provide 1:1 guidance meetings, group workshops, designated life skills lessons, careers assemblies, work experience, careers fairs and much more. For a detailed breakdown on Thurston Community College Careers Programme please see our careers calendar.
SEND Provision for Careers Guidance
The Careers Guidance practitioner works closely with the Progression Manager, SEND Lead and a wide range of school support staff to ensure a holistic action plan is in place for each student.
Students receive additional sessions where parents and carers are able to attend 1:1 careers sessions before or after school.
Careers are discussed within the EHP action planning meeting and exploration starts from Year 7.
Additional support with options available, applications, CV building and college visits have been very successful over the past two years where small groups of students have visited campus during quieter periods to lessen anxieties and aid engagement.
