Thurston Community College

My experience at TCC news

After only a year, I have had so many different opportunities, experiences and chances to meet so many different people. It allowed me to learn lots more about people and produce content in either article or podcast form that people across our community can enjoy and further the information they have access to.

What is it like?

It’s hard to put a view on everything, but the work varies a lot. For me, I have done quite a lot when helping in podcasts which I think is very good for people that are like what I was like, quite nervous and uncomfortable when talking to new people. It allows you to not only meet new, friendly and funny people but also it helps you to develop essential skills that are great for communication in jobs and in day to day living later in life. But if that isn’t what you would like to do, there are so many opportunities in student news such as graphic designing, article writing, technical aspects, editing, journaling etc. It really helps with confidence and to build a community that works together to better TCC as a whole.

What Opportunities has it given you?

It allows you to not only meet new and exciting people, but to visit places and learn new skills to benefit you. For example, you might get the chance to go to Beyton for either training or other news team related tasks. Not only that, but like many of my friends and peers, you can even go to places such as London for the coronation. Or even a chance to go to places like radio stations to experience what it would be like in the future if you do choose to pursue a career in radio, podcasting, news or anything else that requires skills that can be gained from being a part of this school's news team.

So, in conclusion, I think that this team has helped me substantially in more ways than none and has offered so many skills to learn and things to try which has improved me not only in an academic sense, but also improved me as a person by building my confidence and ability to work as a team.
